Street Signal Timing at 3212 E Mt Vernon St
Status: Open
Status: Open
Description
The east/west bound signals (Mt Vernon) do not recognize bicycles. They will change for cars in oncoming or left turning lanes but then will change back to green for Hillside and leave me sitting at the stop light. I use this intersection at 6am and 2pm on a commute to Spirit Aerosystems every weekday. Example: Today I was riding from George Washington Blvd headed west. The signal at the intersection was red (green for Hillside). I sat for 1 minute. One car headed east stopped facing me. Two cars stopped at the left turn lane facing me. (eastbound Mt Vernon to northbound Hillside). The signal turned for all the eastbound traffic. Then returned to green for north/south bound Hillside. I waited another minute for a car to stop behind me and trigger the light. This is unacceptable. I am a legal road vehicle and should not be forced to either wait for several minutes for a car or run the light. My commute bike weight 50 pounds with racks and bags. It is a safety issue for me to move up the sidewalk with the bike, trigger the beg button, and then try to reinsert myself into traffic.
