Keeping Animals in Wichita

Any owner of a dog over five months old needs to get a dog license, and renew that license every year.  All dogs must be vaccinated for rabies every three years, but a new vaccination tag must be assigned to the dog by a veterinarian every year.

An Animal Maintenance Permit is required when keeping more than: two dogs, two cats, two rabbits, three fowl, any miniature pig, or any livestock animal such as a cow, horse, sheep, or goat.  

Pit Bulls must have a microchip and be spayed or neutered.

Anyone who wants to keep a dog that has been declared dangerous by the City of Wichita must microchip and register the dog.
