Tree Maintenance on Private Property

The Forestry division cares for trees in the street right of way (the area between the street and sidewalk).

Trees in all other areas, including alleys, are the responsibility of the property owner.

When two properties are separated by an alley, each owner next to the alley is responsible for the trees in their half of the alley. For example: an alley separates two properties and the alley is twenty feet wide. Each property owner would need to care for trees that are ten feet into the alley.

It is recommended that a certified arborist be consulted before any tree maintenance is attempted.

In rare situations, the City Manager's Office will announce that fallen tree limbs will be removed by the City due to a catastrophe.  If an announcement is made, special pick up times and areas will be reported on this portal and on local and social media.
